Kolos is the name of a skateboarding crew from Bor, Serbia. It was established as a crew in 2004, and at the time there were more then twenty skaters in Bor, which is – for a small industrial town – more than enough. Together with skateboarders from Negotin and Zaječar they had a subcultural alliance KZS (Kolos, Zglob, Shorty). They were very well organized and after many years of initiating they finally got the skate plaza in Bor. Kolos was the main subject of the films Tilva Roš (2010), Kolos: Step by Step (2010), Devil’s Toy – Bor (2014), Why I Love Skateboarding (2015) and their only skate film The Fight is Worth It (2014).
Skateboarding was the biggest part of my adolescence. Growing up in a small industrial town doesn’t offer much, and for all of us skateboarding was a sort of resistance against apathy and conformism. All of us were different, and we took different paths later in life, but what united us the most was an enormous desire to feel more. Skateboarding also evolved my passion for photography, the result of which can be seen throughout this series. We spent a lot of time together, and I enjoyed capturing this raw energy from the inside, for I feel all of them as my second family.
